Planned forum upgrade & downtime

Recommended Posts

I'll set it so that everyone can download files (though not banned users, but they shouldn't be able to access the site in the first place so that's another story), I don't remember what we decided previously, but I don't see any reason not to enable it (apart from possibly trying to force people to register, but that's neither fair nor very likely to be beneficial in the long run.

I can confirm that the emoticons don't work on Android, maybe there are separate emoticon files for mobile devices or something? Not really sure as there isn't a separate mobile theme. I hope Jan has got more clues where to look for the answer to that question. They work fine on a desktop browser as far as I can tell, so it's got to be something that's specific to mobiles.

I see all emoticons in Firefox/Windows.

Are you on a cell phone/tablet or on a laptop/desktop computer? (I assume the latter, but seeing as Windows can be an OS for mobile platforms as well I thought it'd be best to ask to be sure ;) )

Apparently https://wildfiregames.com/forum/uploads/emoticons/happy@2x.png and other *@2x images from srcset tag which are used on screens with higher pixel density (or whatever it's called, see a demo and explanation here: https://webkit.org/demos/srcset/) are missing.

Retina Emoticons

Our well-loved emoticons have had a facelift (pun intended) and now look great on high-resolution retina screens and dark backgrounds:

The emoticon manager in the ACP intelligently handles retina versions of your own emoticons for you - simply upload emoticons with “@2x” appended to the filename, and IPS 4.1 will know it’s a high-res version of an existing emoticon and seamlessly serve it for you.

So it probably should be possible to download something like 'retina emoticons pack' somewhere on the IPS site and upload it using the 'emoticon manager in the ACP'

Provided they are emoticons from IPB and not some generic ones gotten from somewhere else way back in the annals of history =) But certainly worth looking into. Or we could just resize them for less perfect, but at least working versions :P

Other small issue: Even though I set the 'remember' option when logging in, I frequently get logged out (more than daily). This never happened to me with the previous IPBoards. This happens on all 3 devices (Win 7 desktop, Win 10 laptop, Android smartphone. All running Chrome)

The web server should rewrite http URLs into https. This is apparently done by the forum, but this is not enough and causes some issues, e.g. the meetinglogs dir but also some links on the forum sometime wrongly behave.

An option to merge double posting by the users.

and mark as solved in the forum help and  another feedback

Changed the setting so that posts made in the same topic by the same user within one minute will be merged. Can't see any setting related to the mark as solved or similar (you can set a forum to be "Questions and answers", but that just orders the replies based on rating by other users), but I will keep looking as I think I've seen something similar on a different site that uses the same IPB version, so there might be a way.

Actually I was mistaken, it was the Questions forum type I remembered. That might be useful for some cases, but isn't really a good alternative when you need to be able to mark something as answered which was the benefit of the old way of doing things.

Check my post in that forum ( Help and Feedback) I posted there because , I'm not sure if is bug or a problem started by me.

I reply to mimo and Sanya, quickly I suppose the answer can be merge as one.

Until this gets fixed, maybe HTTPS Everywhere can help - it needs to be installed by each user though.

I'm getting 400 errors (Bad Request). Refreshing the page resolves it most of the time but it happens fairly often (and it's a tad annoying). It might be related to my logout issues mentioned here:

I also had this, and it improved when accessing through https only (need to update bookmarks...).

It will also need a special rule for wildfiregames.com domain, someone should submit it to the EFF! :)

And the web server should also set HTTP Strict Transport Security. It is really simple to set up and together with http->https rewrite the proper thing to do when you want to serve your domain only with https.
