Yeah, it was pretty awesome.

So, there were 3 important Athena statues in Athens. The Athena Parthenos, of course, but also Athena Promachos, which was solid bronze and stood atop the Acropolis. It was visible far out into the sea. Ours could just use the exact same model as Athena Parthenos, but with a different texture and maybe different base. The other was a much smaller (slightly bigger than life-size) wooden statue of Athena ('The Palladion') that the Athenians paraded around on a litter during religious festivals. She was usually draped in flowers. Incense burning at her feet. Escorted by virgins and priests. Could just size down the Athena Parthenos, remove a bunch of polygons, and give a wooden texture.

would this be a free-standing building or part of the Parthenon Wonder? while it's inaccurate, i would personally recommend that the buildable Parthenon not have the statue to put less strain on the about of faces it has, while for scenario design one could theorectically place the statue inside the Parthenon for authenticity

Separate.

I trust him to have checked the license.

I would trust him if it was intended for 0 A.D. vanilla, not so much for DE, which has copyrighted placeholder art. "free" doesn't specify if it's CC0 or if we need attribution or what.

Point being I would feel much more comfortable if it were home grown, or at least knew the original artist for attribution.

Sure I understand. I'll try to look for the original models as I have no way to contact him. If the license is compatible I'll commit it. If not we'll I'll wait for someone to come up with another version.

I suppose we could add CadNav to the credits for attribution's sake, I don't see any specific artist's claim on it.

I'm cautious because I heard a while back there was a misunderstanding with CGTextures license being incompatible with our own, despite being a free texture distributor...

Looks like this one http://www.cadnav.com/3d-models/model-21087.html and it was in 3dsmax format when Enrique send it to me for conversion.

There doesn't seem to be any license attached to it? Under "License", it just says "Free (Personal and Commercial)", which is not really a license.

Nor do their terms of use explain much more about that:

http://www.cadnav.com/help/disclaimer.html

The possibility of that model being compatible with the CC-BY-SA 3.0 seems rather bleak to me...

Welp, this blew up. :)

That is indeed the base model. The model in DE is heavily modified by @Enrique, to reduce polygons, add a plinth, reskinned, etc.

I hope you don't mind, but I sent an e-mail to cadnav.com to clear up any licensing issue. I will report any reply to this thread.

"Free" is a problematic "license" indeed. Let's see what cadnav says.
