===[COMMITTED]=== Mauryan Defense Tower, City Walls, Wall Gate

Recommended Posts

Those reliefs are from the Mauryans direct successors btw. Not from the Mauryans themselves, but stylistically things didn't change much between its successors and the Mauryas much.

I was thinking specifically of Megasthenes' descriptions of the fortifications at Pāṭaliputra.

Yeah, I know the tall wooden walls. I tried to find examples like those in the reliefs, but can't find them.

@lordgood What program do you use to do the UV mapping in? Or do you have Sketchup Pro?

I don't have UV mapping, I usually just manually apply textures to fit

One thing though Lord.

You should make the railings more like this.

The polygon count would fly through the roof if I tried that, I assume a similar looking texture should suffice. In the end they should look like the railings on the reliefs

I hope you can work it out, because that railing design is one of the things that pops up a lot. Along with the archs and stuff.

@LordGood : I think the upper part of the gate building needs an access from the walls, to avoid interruption of the guard full pathway around the town. And I agree with lilstewie about the balcony fence.

Wow! These are some great models LordGood! Excellent quality (y) I would only suggest you make the spike like thing on the arch a tiny bit longer, it looks a bit squat now :) Keep up the good work (y)

@lordgood I think the 'step' look on the battlements could be replaced with a normal-mapped face and save a lot of polys.

I like your defense tower design of the previous page. how much is the triangle count?

Do you want to texture them?

6,478 triangles for that particular model

but I'm awful when it comes to texturing. I'll give it a shot though

Look at Enrique's Fortress. He did the railing w/textures. Overall, looks outstanding. I'd say change the railing over, then it's ready for a commit. (Also, put those arches on your temple :P)

gah, the arch texture keeps warping on kerkythea export

they're all supposed to look like the right one on top of the tower

some sheild textures would be helpful too :)

Excellent texturing LordGood ! The tiny roof of the entrance needs tiles I think. And the tower would look more occupied if the door-windows of the balcony were opened.

I really like this! Great work!

EDIT: OK, perhaps after a bit of rescaling like Mythos_Ruler suggests.

Good for the door.

Good try also for opening the windows at the upper level, but it still feel shut, and the doors you made seem impossible to open in the narrow space of the balcony. Can you try doors opening toward the inside ? (and opened much more so that we see the indoor space) BTW, maybe there's no need of doors on the four sides. I suggest doors on only 2 sides (one on the same face of the ground door and one at the opposite). That will also make more realistic the need for structure to carry the roof.

Alright, the sheild textures keep breaking but they're brilliant, i didnt put the ground plane in this one, so you can see it extend below
