Population

Hello,

Here is a question that may be interesting to discuss.

What will population do in comparison to training times?

-Will a player that has a population of lets say 100, train its villagers/warriors and other units faster?

Reasoning:

The more people in a small area the more people getting busy.

That could be interesting. It's too complex to be a part of 0 A.D. though. Not necessarily too difficult to program, but rather too much to think about for the user/to test to make sure the game is balanced.

It would sure be something to think about if someone makes a more complex game (and I don't mean that 0 A.D. isn't hard to develop, just that our aim is to make it easy to play, at least relatively), and then includes both positive and negative effects of a larger population. One idea could be (for such a hypothetical game, not 0 A.D. :) just wants to make that really clear so you don't get any ideas ;) ) to make the units train faster, but have less hitpoints (simulating that there are more deseases, higher risk of food shortage etc if there are more people). That would force the player to make the decision between a large population, that can respond to threats in greater numbers but aren't as stable, and a healthy one, that has the stregth to counter stronger units but would quickly get overwhelmed by large numbers, so to speak :P
