  1. Well Flemish is similar to Dutch, but not just a dialect as most Flemish and Dutch people think. West-Flemish is a dialect of Dutch, but Flemish, the language some people still speak in the Nord/Pas-de-Calais, is almost a language in its own. The reason for this is that Flanders, including West-Flanders, has 'suffered' from standardization of Dutch, which is mostly based on the Dutch they speak in Holland and Brabent. In the Nord/Pas-de-Calais they weren't influenced by that so they kept speaking the original Flemish, which is similar to the West-Flemish dialect. Well must be a bit confusing that Flemish isn't the language we speak in Flanders glad you're interested Uppy
  2. Lol Matteo, you're a real Italian, though a Fiat would have been better
  3. Yeah they accept it too I think. As for the accent, in fact there are still quite a few who speak Flemish. Note that it isn't Dutch, the Dutch wouldn't understand it, it's common to the West-Flemish dialect which my gf speaks. It's a Germanic language, so nothing similar to French. It's mostly the older people and it's dieing out despite that they work together with Flanders on many things (economy, police, tourism). Yeah, the distances in France are already much bigger than here. Lille is only a 45 min drive for me, so not too far away
  4. Well I'm mostly driving one of my parent's cars, both Peugeot Partners. Nothing special, but they drive really well and have a lot of space. When I get my own car it'll probably also a Peugeot Partner, or otherwise another cheap car that must be a Diesel (you know, the gas you put in it, Diesels drive quite smoothly, though a bit slow to gain speed) and a servo steering-wheel (that's a steering-while that needs less power to turn and is very smooth). So I don't care about the looks but I care about the usability of the car.
  5. Yeah Natedog got one, by Jordan IIRC. But I think it has been undone.
  6. Well it used to be celebrated in small circles since 1302, then by many Flemings since 1850 (first Flemish Movement, the romantics brought the topic back up), and two years ago it became our official national day. Some people are still celebrating it in Pas de Calais or the Nord region in France too btw, since that used to be Flemish. The most patriotic French aren't happy about it I've heard, it seems they don't like people feasting because they kicked the French out
  7. 3 months (vacation) I get $50/month. The other 9 months I get $160/month, but I need to pay food, drink, washing products and the phone bill from that. As for earning money; for web design stuff I got $1900 this year and for manual labor around $600 (which will be used for travelling). So that's $4090
  8. I've given you a 4 too Btw, is that exactly what your English teacher wrote? Not that my English is good, but hers isn't that good either
  9. Well some rules, eg. regarding nudity were changed. But there's nothing wrong with bringing back up old topics. I saw once that someone got a rep- for doing that, but rest assured, lowering rep for something like that will be undone. So as long as the post still applies to the current rules there's no problem bringing it back up again, except maybe if the post was on the edge of a flame or something. So I suggest leaving Tim's naked man on dog where it is
  10. Hey why did you all forget wishing me a happy 11th July, the Flemish national day? Then we remember 11th July 1302, when we kicked French butt during the Battle of the Golden Spurs Anyway, a belated happ 14th Curu I have good memories regarding the 14th. On one of the best camps I went to in France it was the 14th we arrived, after a very long and boring train ride. That night we went to a small French village, and there was a huge party all over the town because of the 14th. It was a great night, you French put a lot of effort in your national day.
  11. Well for a region like Flanders it's hard to say if you live on the country side, suburbs or a city since the whole region is covered with houses. According to Flemish standards I live on the country side and I wouldn't want to change that. During the school period I live in a city and it's much less enjoyable. Living on the country side in Flanders also has the advantages of living in a city; everything is pretty close, the closest town is around 5km and the closest big city around 18km. So if you have car you can enjoy the benifits of both the country side and the city
  12. Yeah, not a real Frenchman, but rather a Belgian
  13. Well Curu seems to like starting every post with :)
  14. Some board settings regarding cookies were changed yesterday to make certain scripts work that we're using with this forum. So the old cookies don't work anymore which means you have to login again. After you've logged in in all the three forums everything should be fine again
  15. Looking fantastic Michael. Those little brick textures add a nice effect
  16. That's probably also someone like me who uses one tree and one pig for each bow
  17. Well I think every country has beautiful girls, but in general I like the French, Belgian, Swedish and Italian most. Well Japanese maybe too, I see many of them almost every day in Bruges, some are very cute
  18. Yeah, there's also one in my street. Makes coming home a joy j/k
  19. Yeah, finding a summer job is getting hard these days. I've always had luck that my parents have/had many connections due to their job, eg. slaughterhouse since my mother works there and food distribution center since it used to be a client of my dad. So, maybe you could get one through your parents, that's the easiest way to find one. Right now I'm working for two NPO's, designing websites and such. They don't pay very well but they always have a lot of work available. Maybe you could try some of those?
  20. No that wasn't a joke, that's the way I always do it Have fun with the course Matteo
  21. You need the following items: a chainsaw, a pig, a rope, some friends and a very sharp knife. First find the best tree around. Pick up the chainsaw and cut it down. Be sure to make it fall to the correct side or you won't be shooting bows for a long time. Now, when the tree has fallen you can look for a nice branch to use for your bow. Now take the pig and have some friends holding it in case it gets angry. Pick up your knife and gently slice its throat. Take a rope and use it to hang the pig upside down. When the bleeding has stopped cut open its belly. Be sure you're not standing under it or you'll have the shower of your life. You can now use the bowels as tendon for your bow. The last step is the most boring one of this whole process. You simply have to put the two ends of the tendon on the branch you got from that tree you cut down a few hours ago. Make sure the tension is high enough, otherwise you won't shoot far.
  22. The scariest thing that happened to me was when I was about 5-years-old. The house next to ours used to be of my dad's parents and we were renting it to some strange guy and his family. One day he got very angry at his house keeper and started beating him up and attacking him with a knife. The house keeper ran to our house for help, but only I was there, alone. He was running around our house, his face covered in blood, and after him that strange guy ran with a knife. Well, I didn't really exactly know what to do, so I started to scream very loudly. Fortunatly my mom heared my screams; she was in here vet practice, a building close to our house. So when she heared my she came to our house and that must have scared the attacker away. A few hours later the police arrested him. It turned out that he wasn't only arrested because of what he did to his house keeper but mainly because he was involved in a big political fraud scandal regarding Jean-Pierre Van Rossem (that guy is very infamous in Belgium). Another scary thing that once happened to me was when I was only 3-years-old. I was busy drawing with a new set of nice sharp pencils I got. Kids of that age still like to put things in their mouth, so I took out the sharpest one, put it in my mouth and started walking around with it. Suddenly I fell on the floor, and guess what: the pencil totally pierced my cheek. Well my dad is still saying that it was quite a scary sight, me lying there with a pencil through my cheeck I still have a big scar on my cheeck, but fortunatly it's getting smaller and smaller.
  23. I guess it's that time of year again: summer holidays I haven't been active too much for several reasons, mainly being on holiday a while ago and being bitten there by nasty ticks. Another thing is that job I'm doing; it started out with making one website and it's ending up in becoming the house web design for that organization. So lots of work to do and lots of dough to earn
  24. Well for some reason the Mysql server had a problem so that IPB could not connect to it, that's all I can make out of the error. Can happen from time to time I suppose.
  25. Well it is true that the Dutch are the tallest people in the world in general, has been proven scientifically
