  1. Just to let you know that the current actor used for the Champion "spearman" is in the Iphicratean manner (gear and all), not a mere typical "elite" force in the literature you provided.
  2. As Nibbles said twice in Tom & Jerry, "C'est la guerre!"; well, c'est la vie to all of us... Am grateful for your service to the free world; 0 A.D. will never be the same again after this passing of torches.
  3. They're all in the Norse faction in the Millennium A.D. mod.
  4. It has reasonable changes for the next alpha, but will the reformed Spartan Pikemen be of good use in the future? A further suggestion could be a forked technology for city phase: one for traditional and other reform; the latter will have the pikemen, walls, and three new heroes of the late era, among others. Another distinction for the Spartans!
  5. Please, please, please: have a look on the progress for the debated "Iphicratean Reforms" first! Currently a deadlock.
  6. From just looking at the three playable heroes, both.
  7. Starting off, and to be fair, the "main" faction catafalque should be one of the more-notable Buddhist saints, such as Ānanda (highly-knowledgeable/bahuśruta: slight decrease in training time of citizens and monks, treasurer of the dharma/dharma-bhaṇḍāgārika: reduced glory and maybe other costs of certain technology/research) or Mahākāśyapa (ascetism/tapasyā: monks/priests healing rate and walking speed bonus, at the cost of around 1/4 to 1/2 of healing range when in range of catafalque; first patriarch/???: technology research time decrease for temple and maybe other structures). But generic śarīra (other eight disciples?) can have a common bonus of slight increase in healing (for monks/priests), attack (melee warriors), and harvest/collection (citizens) rates when in range of the "catafalque" (community/sangha/saṃgha), and glory trickle (veneration/pratīkṣā). A set number of relics can also be placed in different locations as map elements, outside of capture the relic mode. If conflicting accounts of the Gautama Buddha's life can be dated to around the 0 A.D. era, he could be the main or Atlas-only catafalque, otherwise his wife or son; specific bonuses to be determined or based on the generic.
  8. With the inclusion of Bindusara as the actual third hero, better change the catafalque name! If "Śarīra" is used, then the generic name shouldn't be "Catafalque" but something like "Buddhist relics", with unit description rewritten to reflect this as the "remains of a notable Buddhist disciple or saint".
  9. You meant, "where you live?" Sure, in JavaScript terms, a location close to "America/Los Angeles"; but right now currently on vacation for a few weeks in a location close to "Asia/Manila".
  10. You see, the Asia/Kolkata entry is unique to the others as it has an entry that isn't an integer, i.e. "3.5". Can you try reproducing with another location in a different time zone? such as "America/Newfoundland" or "Asia/Kathmandu" where these would be rendered also as non-integers too.
  11. const Asia_Kolkata = formatTime( new Date(nextHalfHour.getTime() + 3.5 * 60 * 60 * 1000), "Asia/Kolkata", Guess the period/decimal point is the issue here...
  12. Just read the previous posts... overlooked; whose idea was putting the stoa "thureophoros" generic champion javelineer (and the thorakites swordsman) for the Hellenic factions until around Alpha 24?
  13. I'm now seeing a few red flags regarding changeset 27779: the elite hoplite can now promote to epilektos, which makes not much sense. The latter, so-called "champion hoplite", is a by-product of the Iphicratean reforms, from the change of gear. Why overlook this in the name of balancing? Still waiting for the possible name change of technology and/or correction, as well as the reintroduction of champion javelineers.
  14. All work done in this game, especially modifications, is on a volunteer basis; what a little kid. The .tga files uploaded by @d34d svn are extracted from a Rome: Total War modification, not intended for use in this one. You can start by learning how to use a modelling program, create the required bits and pieces relating to these two Persian factions, add a texture, and eventually know how to stand up for yourself. Just saying.
  15. Pardon the double post, here is an illustration of an Iphicratean peltast as an early form of pikeman: ...from a Russian-language forum.
  16. Any historical basis? Else, it's no different from throwing bolas or meteor hammers.
  17. Those two would be like the Antigonids or mid-late Macedonians with agema/royal peltasts or kestrosphedones (dart slingers), respectively. Most of the units on the list would fit this faction.
  18. Isn't the opening poster the same guy as @Stitch from the related thread? If so, a critique of the image attachments: The first two images are actually part of the Great Chaitya (Buddhist sanctuary or hall) inside Karla Caves, Maharashtra, which doesn't appear palace-like at all. Third is a generic chaitya and vihāra (Buddhist monastery) based on one from an unknown location. For the fourth, seeing a handful of temples alongside the Great Stupa, but where's the so-called "palace"? Good luck finding any good art or images for Pataliputra...
  19. Nor any known citizenship system in both factions. In place of both slavery and hard labor (health-decrease), a laborer, working class, or the related is a viable alternative. Closest are Simöbe/Yatuko (both mean "servant") and Siduwo ("lower-class man"). The ones normally rendered "citizen" can use either Tunepitö (ordinary man), Pitö ("man"), or Otöna ("adult"). "Caste" is a misnomer, especially in Indian contexts; best to research the concept of varna in this case. Also debatable is slavery in ancient India, especially during the Buddhist/Maurya timeframe. For now, Dāsa (male)/Dāsi (female) in reference to servants/workers/bondsmen. Also, revert defense_tower back to Yagura because Takatönö actually refers to a "high or tall palace (building)" instead of actual stone tower; can't find any attestation about any latter per se.
  20. Isn't the Latin for "a commander of a hundred" Centuriō or Centurio (no macron), without the final "-n"? Note that champion_infantry_swordsman_04 uses the correct spelling.

    Also, infantry_swordsman_a and/or infantry_swordsman_e should be appended Prīnceps or Princeps (no macron) to draw the line between the first and second rankers, in light of the gear of said two actor counterparts. Separate image(s) for each would be appreciated for structure tree, specifically below civil center/barracks and army camp.

      Noted. Will fix.

      There are a few different ways we could have the Hastatus -> Pinceps line played out.

      Basic: Hastatus

      Advanced: Princeps

      Elite: Centurio

      Or have just 2 ranks, where the Roman swordsman is trained from the Advanced rank from the beginning, which would be a unique bonus in itself:

      Advanced (skip "Basic"): Hastatus

      Elite: Princeps

      Veteran -> Champion upgrade: Centurio

      Or any number of ways to make this feel unique. A "Pila" technology at the Forge could unlock throwing the Pilum before attacking melee.

  21. With the feature freeze around the corner, here are the finalized renaming requests! For @Lopess: champion_infantry_axeman: Wono nö Tupamönö → Wono Tupamönö remove "nö" because it literally translates "Axe of soldier"/"Soldier of axe"; also, this unit has the entity parent of "swordsman" instead of the intended "axeman", typo fix please champion_infantry_swordsman: Turuki nö Tupamönö → Turuki Tupamönö infantry_pikeman_b: Ainu Hunter Long spear → Ainu Hunter siege_ram: Tukikomi → Yaburigï literally "breaking-wood/tree" support_trader: Akinapi → Akipitö barracks: Sikömi nö Nipa → Tamuro corral: Wori → Koya literally "small house", i.e. for animals dock: Tu → Minato farmstead: Kömëgura → Kura "kura" can mean storehouse of any objects, for consistency with other foodstuffs field (wheat/grain): Nora → Patake literally "field for growing crops", no/nora/para for any kind of field range: Ikusa nö Nipa → Yanipa shrine (in structures/yayo folder): Jinja → Yasirö overlooked wall_tower: Yagura → Sumi literally "corner" wallset_stone: Yōng → Kaki overlooked For @wowgetoffyourcellphone: cavalry_archer_b: Umanöri Mësikakaë → Umanöri Mësikakapë/Korean Retainer Archer Forgot to add "p" in "Mësikakapë" if you want to use the full old Japanese champion_infantry_axeman: Wononö → Masurawo Axeman "masurawo" literally means "brave/strong man", fitting for a champion champion_infantry_swordsman: Turukinö → Masurawo Swordsman infantry_slinger_b: Tubutenagë Slinger → Tabutenagë Slinger merc_cavalry_1: → Umanöri Mësikakapë/Korean Mercenary Archer merc_infantry_1: Ainu Long Spear Hunter → Ainu Hunter siege_ram: Tukikomi → Yaburigï support_citizen: Simöbe support_slave: Siduwo/Yatuko though no known system of slavery in place support_trader: Akinapi → Akipitö barracks: Sikömi nö Nipa → Tamuro corral: Wori → Koya defense_tower_stone: Yagura → Takatönö literally "tall building" dock: Tu → Minato farmstead: Kömëgura → Kura field: Nora → Ta "ta" specifically for "rice paddy" field_cash_crops: Nora → Patake market_stall: Mise → Misedana "mise" is short for "misedana" literally "display shelf", shorter form only attested since 13th century range: Ikusa nö Nipa → Yanipa shrine (in structures/yayo folder): Jinja → Yasirö wall_gate: Chéng Mén → Kado wall_long: Chéng Yuán → Kaki wall_medium: Chéng Yuán → Kaki wall_short: Chéng Yuán → Kaki wall_tower: Chéng Lóu → Sumi wallset_stone: Yōng → Kaki Technology specific names: Fishing Culture: Sunadöri Copper Bells: Akagane (literally "copper [metal]", since bell can also be translated as "kane") Traditional Rituals: Nöritö (literally "ritual prayer") Korean Mercenary Cavalry: Karabitö (literally "Korean people") Warships: Pune Advanced Ranged Infantry: Masurawo Elite Ranged Infantry: Ikusa Fixes: The wonder can have the GenericName of "Ise Grand Shrine" Himiko should have female phenotype parameter Opobune means "large boat" while Wobune "small boat"; what decides the name of the bireme/light warship is the finished model. Anything else missing or in need of better translation?
  22. It's "Yayoi" with an extra "y". Besides, this leans to off-topic.
  23. Well then, that settles it. @AIEND and @wowgetoffyourcellphone, will you do the honors of making the concepts using the in-game actors so to decide whether mounted or not is more plausible in both gameplay values? Divide et Impera shots to give you inspiration:
  24. In alpha 23 the Spartans had both a champion infantry swordsman and javelineer. In lieu of a removal of the structure that supposedly trains both of them, the latter can be a Skiritai.
