how to destroy Ballista instead of convert it

thank you very much guys you help me a lot, i didn't know that, a noob yesterday win me using ballista and i was thinking because i didn't kill him fast enough before building them. -

Hi guys, please help me in this, how to destroy Ballista instead of convert it? if not possible how i can convert them faster because there are hard when there are army near them.
