Success! I can now launch the game. I can do single player matches, but if I try to connect to the multiplayer lobby it instantly segfaults. I am certainly not trying to hijack the thread. Perhaps it is as simple as I need to those magical two lines into another function?

I am pleased to hear @Weber K. figured out how to get the game running in Slackware 14.2. I am displeased to realize that I do not understand how to implement this solution. Does it require editing a file? If so, which file and where is it? And do I do it before or after compiling? Please forgive my ignorance.
