  1. In previous events where all the travel was within Europe, the treasury committee has given sums of about EUR 150 per participant, plus about EUR 100 for promotional materials. This request for EUR 462.80 is well in line with this rough rule of thumb, given the large number of 0 A.D. delegates at FOSDEM this year, which stands at five. I also think our fiscal situation allows for this "ad hoc" expense. We have about USD 28,000, with about USD 1,000 spent every year on hosting. (In terms of Euros, those sums are equivalent to about EUR 23,000 and about EUR 800 respectively.) Until we do build a budget, I think we should reimburse the attendees. Therefore, I vote in favor of this proposal. @feneur @MishFTW
  2. Thanks for the wonderful write-up, @Itms ! You definitely make a compelling case for attending FOSDEM this year and in the future. I just wish to verify that you have receipts for everything. SPI will not reimburse you otherwise.
  3. Hopefully SPI can have a look into this next week.
  4. I agree with your feedback and I suggest that you improve the tutorial for Alpha 23, @sphyrth. You have a knack for explaining things simply and concisely.
  5. Hi @andy5995, I have obtained a confirmation. Please check the the e-mail address associated with your PayPal account.
  6. Thanks for your donation, @andy5995! My name is Aviv and I am a member of the 0 A.D. Treasury Committee. I agree that a confirmation e-mail is in order. I believe that people who donate using Click&Pledge get one automatically, but donors who use PayPal might not. Unfortunately, we cannot see donations or directly issue confirmations. Software in the Public Interest, Inc. (SPI) handles the donations for us and only they have direct access to our financial data. If you can kindly provide the sum donated, the e-mail address associated with your PayPal account, and date of donation, I will gladly ask SPI to confirm that the sum was donated. You can do this via private message if you prefer. I apologize in advance as it could take quite some time to get any response from SPI. Last but not least, I have made a new thread in the announcements forum with a copy of the financial report. I have also edited the link in the news post so that it now points there. I thought the treasury committee forum was open to the public. Thanks for letting me know otherwise.
  7. In the interest of transparency, the Wildfire Games team would like to report on the finances of the project as of 2017-03-31. Until 2016-12, 0 A.D. had funds in three places: Funds earmarked for the project and held in trust by US-based non-profit organization Software in the Public Interest, Inc. (hereafter "SPI"); A PayPal account under the name of former project leader, Jason Bishop (Wijitmaker). This account was a legacy of the time before we became affiliated with SPI; An account on Flattr, a Sweden-based microdonation provider. SPI Earmark for 0 A.D. As of 2017-01-01, the 0 A.D. earmark is USD 29,528.35 (Source: SPI Treasurer's Report). Other Accounts In our "legacy" PayPal account, we had USD 366.30 on 2016-11-30. This sum was consolidated with the SPI earmark in December 2016 and is probably reflected in the account balance mentioned above. We will not be using this account anymore and we have duly removed the references to it from the donation page. On Flattr, we have EUR 842.14 available, which are approximately USD 900. We have removed the references to Flattr account from the donation page and we intend to consolidate these funds with the SPI earmark in the near future. Total In total, we have approximately 30,428.35 USD. Concluding Remarks The 0 A.D. project finances are managed by the Treasury Committee: Erik (“feneur”), Adarash ("MishFTW") and Aviv (“Jeru”). We welcome your comments and suggestions in this thread.

  9. @Itms can you please add "L’association L’Informatique Solidaire – Desclicks" To the donor list? I got a request from a donor over email. Thanks!
  10. I have changed the donation page as per @xanax's suggestion. Thanks for this very valuable and constructive feedback! I have also deleted the references to the legacy PayPal account and to Flattr from the donation page, as we have decided to consolidate all the funds into the SPI earmark anyway.
  11. Excellent. Thank you both.
  12. Frankly, as it is, the Flattr money is nearly useless. It's a huge headache to disburse funds from Flattr for any purpose our project would actually need. I hate working with Flattr and I don't want the existing money to be forgotten or otherwise go to waste somehow. I think that if the ~10 monthly donors really want to donate to 0 A.D., they can use the mainstream methods. Flattr has a form where you can fill in bank account details and withdraw all the money in the Flattr "wallet balance". I believe the SPI treasurer could just use that form. If we all agree, I'll write the treasurer and verify this. I don't think Flattr would charge anything, but SPI's bank might. Still, I think it's worth a one-time commission. That's a good point I hadn't considered (and I was wondering why the balance went down in the legacy account between 2014 and 2015. This explains it). Yeah, they take care of the server. If we all agree, I'll write the treasurer and verify this, but based on our experience with the web server, I think we should be fine.
  13. To make life easier and prevent waste, I would like the Treasury Committee's approval to take the following steps: to consolidate all of the Flattr funds into our SPI funds, to cancel the Flattr account, to ask Jason to consolidate all of the legacy PayPal funds into our SPI funds, and to let Jason know that once the funds are transferred, he can close the legacy account if he wants to. We currently have EUR 805.18 in the Flattr "wallet balance", up from EUR 619.75 in November 2015. I am attaching a month-by-month transaction log of the last year or so. Based on 2014-2015 data, the legacy PayPal account probably has something like USD 300-400. This is money that legally belongs to Jason and he can be taxed for any extra income that goes into the account. @MishFTW and @feneur, what say you?
  14. I have changed the donation page. The edgy Network for Good thingo is gone and a nice standard PayPal button has replaced it. It is also at the top of the page. I would like the Treasury Committee's approval to consolidate all of the Flattr funds and all of the legacy PayPal funds into our SPI funds and to cancel the Flattr account. I'll conduct that discussion in a separate thread.
  15. Here are two anonymized e-mails that I have received with name suggestions for Alpha 22: #1 #2 You are all invited to write your thoughts about these suggestions and to suggest other names as well!
  16. Thanks for your suggestions, xanax. We now have access to a direct PayPal link for donating directly to 0 A.D through SPI (see here). I will make that the top way of donating, instead of Network for Good. Click&Pledge will probably remain and be demoted to the "second-best" way to donate. I also would like to get rid of the donations links to Flattr and the legacy PayPal account entirely because they're both a hassle to work with. Last but not least, I want to write another financial report but I'm having trouble finding the time to do it I'll do it by December 15.

  19. Thanks, everyone, the talk went really well thanks to your input!
  20. Cool. I will of course write how it went. Sorry, nope. (And it will be in Hebrew anyway.)
  21. Thanks, everyone who's answered so far. I have revised the questions a little bit. Please keep the answers coming! (If you have already answered and would like to revise the answers accordingly, that would be great!)
  22. This October, I will be co-delivering a talk about human aspects in FOSS game development, with a developer from Spring RTS. The talk will focus on what players, developers and other community members want or need from their 0 A.D.-related activities, on conflicts that might arise between these groups and within them, and how those conflicts are (or aren't) resolved. I'd like to collect some players' perspectives on 0 A.D. for the purposes of this talk. Hence, I'd be glad if you could answer the following questions: How did you come across 0 A.D.? What motivates you to play 0 A.D.? Is there anything you want from any part of the 0 A.D. community and feel you're not getting? If so, why? Is there any more information you'd like to add? What is your age, gender, and location? Many thanks in advance! Aviv/Jeru
