I think someone on Aok heaven once mentioned that someone from Ensemble Studios said (not exactly directly from the source but anyway...) that they tried siege towers in Aok but found that they made the player build rings of walls. I, however, think that they could still work even if units can't walk on walls. As for a difference from rams, rams should take awhile to tear down a wall and all types of units can go through afterward; a siege tower takes you right over, but only allows infantry... Not exactly the same thing.
  2. That sounds pretty good. Heros might have more "skill" than the average soldier, but an arrow is still an arrow regardless... This is so basic; I wonder why ES didn't make it this way?
  3. That concept sounds much better than AoK. Great idea! Because there won't be many hero units, I wonder if archer heros will have the traditional accuracy? Also, will heros typically have a large amount of pierce armor?
  4. What exactly does "open-sourcing" the project mean? I thought everything but the engine was to be "open" anyway. Is this possibly about making the engine itself open source or is this refering to something entirely different?
  5. So Blender will work fine? That is really good to hear.
  6. Just a few... Will .blend files (blender 3d) be directly supported and how difficult would it be to transport the corresponding blender animations into 0AD? How much will be possible inside the editor, "Atlas?" Will it be possible to make major changes without actually altering the game? For example, will it be possible to rename civilizations, make major adjustments to the tech tree, etc.? Will there be a dedicated unit editor inside "Atlas?" Will the trigger setup be like AoK or similar? If not, then what will it be like? Other than AI scripting, how much coding will be required to create a scenario? (ie - will the triggers and other effects be adequate for most users?) Will it be possible for a user to add controller support to create different genres of games (rpgs, etc.), or would this require a serious amount of recoding?
  7. I think "texture" should be in the name somewhere - my personal opinion only. ("Texture haven" is really not all that bad a name.) The site looks nice but a lot of things don't quite display properly. It could be you're not finished setting it up yet or it could be internet explorer which I have to use. Anyway, great site and I'm looking forward to all that new content.
  8. That sounds interesting. I would particularly be interested in the tutorials section. Anything involving UV mapping and Gimp (or tutorials that will work in Gimp) would be a great help.
  9. Extra damage maybe, but shouldn't they decrease speed? [edit] Wait, we're talking about oared ships not sailing ships... that might change things.

  12. I am currently enjoying learning how to model and texture, but I would really like to learn animations as well.... Have you all ever taken people on the team who have... um, potential?
  13. In the October screenshot, the stair texture is similar to the one in BFME2. I mean that it is narrower at the back of each step to make it appear 3d. I would suggest maybe increasing the angle a little for a better effect as they look "slanted" at the moment. -just a little "Argalian-like" comment.
  14. I really wish I could help; I don't have any specific skills though (or I would have already applied ). I am starting to learn Blender. I also have a version of Photoshop (5.0 I think), but I don't know how to use most of the features. Perhaps I could learn how to texture? Maybe I could do history research? I'm very good at finding errors and typos. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to keep on learning until I can be of service.
  15. If you can, please do. Which animals will actually be huntable and which will be predator only? I think it would be great if we could have separate sections in the media category where we could view units, animals, buildings, etc. that have already been released (similar to heaven game's sections). We already have concepts, and that's good too, but I would like to see a section with closeup pictures of all of the units of each category in one spot. The information would be short, much shorter than a showcase, and would include units that have already been featured in showcases. BTW, I called it the hunter smilie because of the psuedo "binoculars."

  18. I agree. 0 A.D. is much better than "A.D. 0" or "0 B.C."
  19. I though the # came before the "BC" and after the "AD" So, why is it "0 AD" and not "AD 0"
  20. I came from AOK Heaven too. I watched for a while before joining here.
  21. Does this mean we're nearing the half-way mark? That would be great.
