  1. @Genava55 Thanks, very interesting, and nice to see more of this info disseminated to a larger audience I do feel like he missed a lot... It's actually not a video of "Roman trade with Africa", but more a video of "Roman trade on the Indian Ocean". His maps aren't that accurate. And no mention of Kush Rhapta (in modern day Tanzania), Nicon and Sarapion were much further South than his map depicts. Nubia wasn't a term used in the 1st century. The Kingdom of Kush was actually a much more important trading partner with Rome than his glossing over the region suggests, and unlike the "primary" sources he refers to (the writings of the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea which deals specifically with the Indian Ocean trade), the evidence of Roman-Kushite trade can be clearly seen in the archaeological record, as well as other written sources. Also, how could he not mention Nero's "peaceful but not so innocent" expedition to find the source of the Nile, in collaboration with the reigning Kushite monarch? There is no mention of the Roman trading expeditions to West Africa No mention of Cornelius Balbus expedition, who defeated the Garamantes in 19 BC and sent an expedition further South that reached a huge river, probably the Niger river! Roman coins and apparently even ceramics were found in Mali... No mention of Suetonius Paulinus expedition which may have reached the Senegal River. Roman coins and fibula attest to commercial links at least as far south as modern day southern Mauritania. No mention of Septimius Flaccus and his joint Roman-Garamantian commercial expedition which reached lake Chad. Likewise no mention of Julius Maternus who also lead a joint Roman-Garamantian commercial expedition to the same area (Central African Republic)

  2. Consider that like some gossip spreading around... "Have you seen those dudes over there? I heard they are doing lots of stuff these days man"

  3. Probably they wanted to represent Celtic mercenaries in Africa, but zebra are not in North Africa, even during the Ancient Egypt. Same problem for giraff's pelts. And gosh, the bronze age helmet in iron Moreover all the belts are wrong, all the scabbards etc.

  4. Interesting artistic ideas but for the Celtic part that I know the most, this is awfully wrong

  5. Yeah I believe shadows are really important for the depth effect. The modders at Taleworlds and at Total War made really awesome textures even though the engine wasn't that good, and I always found it awesome how they could take every little detail out. I mean look at this, it is ridiculous: (Taken from the Uniform spoiler here)

  7. Well done, but to quibble over a few points, Alexander the Great's appearance was best depicted (at least according to Plutarch) by a statue of Lysippus, of which there is a Roman copy. Emphasising the curls would be especially good. Arrian apparently also states that he had a brown and a blue eye. You can ignore the hair bit, but in game, the eyes will definitely be seen as an inaccuracy unless you painstakingly change them.

  8. Even from the grave, Angus McBride never ceases to amaze me. Here, an illustration depicting Meroitic period iron working in the Kingdom of Kush. If there are any old timers that have access to this very rare publication, "Look and Learn Incorporating Ranger Magazine, The Story of Africa: The Negro Pharaohs, Apr 27 1968, by Mary Cathcart Borer", you'd be a hero for sharing it, because there might be more where this came from... 1968! Angus McBride was definitely ahead of his time! Meroitic Iron smith hammering away at an elongated spearhead a short sword, while a second smith is tempering another weapon. To the left a Meroitic royal or nobleman is inspecting a newly made short sword. In the background, the furnaces for Iron smelting can be made out, as well as some steeply sloped pyramids further in the distance.

  9. Hey, I’m a new player but I used to play Age of Empires 2... Can anyone tell me that 0 A.D. has any mod which contain in-game score system as in AoE2? I would realy apriciate any help.

  10. I think it's obviously a bad idea... You need to scout to assess the strength of your enemies. Seeing live scores makes it so easy to pick off the weaker players, and shouldn't be allowed in MP matches in my opinion.

  15. I don't like the idea of having that, too much intel. In AoE you could tell when your enemy began advancing to the next age just by looking at their score. Make us scout

  17. Sweet ! The details, though if you want to do more armors, why not For some reason they look better than yours (no offense, also not all of them) but I can't pinpoint why they look better, maybe it's because they have a normal map, which you can by the way enable on animated meshes by setting gpuskinning = "true" in your game options, or maybe it's because they have more details, or different shadows. Maybe @wowgetoffyourcellphone or @LordGood could give you a better insight.

  24. Do you guys know about about bgfx? Supposedly it is exactly that kind of renderer abstraction. https://bkaradzic.github.io/bgfx/overview.html The overview is pretty enticing. It also has been around for while, it is pretty popular and is still under active development. (I don't have any experience with it though)

  26. On Sunday we had a workshop with some other people. We showed to three or four how to mod the game, and to one how to translate the game. Hopefully there will be new contributors on the forums. We also had a talk with the person who made the GLTF importer for Blender, and we might contact him in the future when we make the switch from Collada to GLTF Finally I had a talk with the school head master about next year art contributions, so we might have 2D, 3D, Animation, and Web Design contributions next school year.
