  1. Good Morning to All. I am submitting my application to help with documentation and whatever else I can do to help. Thank you for your time and consideration. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks, Dok Position: Anything dealing with documentation. Do you understand that Wildfire Games is a non-commercial project, work for 0 A.D. is volunteer, and work is done for free? Yes Do you agree to distribute all your work for Wildfire Games under Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license? Yes Are you sure you are not wanting to work on something programming related? (Then you don't need to send in an application form.) Yes and No (See the “Short Essay” for more information.) Name: Ralph Wildermuth aka. Dok Email: doktorgm@gmail.com Location: Arizona, Southwest USA Availability: 15 to 20 hours a week until no longer needed. Age: 68 Occupation: I am currently employed by a major Defense Contractor as the documentation manager and tech writer on a Department of Defense program for the software development and maintenance of a tactical biometrics system for the Army. Skills and Experience: I spent 20 years in the Army, many of which were spent as a Master Instructor in control of three national strategic level intelligence systems’ courses for the Army. I was responsible for designing, developing, creating course materials, and teaching many individuals from all service branches on how to operate National Strategic Asset equipment. As a contractor, I developed and wrote the course of instruction for combining two Military Occupational Specialties into one new specialty. Currently, and for the last 13 years, I am the documentation lead for all documentation associated with the development and maintenance of the software and hardware integration for the Army’s biometrics collection program. Motivation: I enjoy the work and understand that the lives of many servicemen and women rest on the accuracy of our system and the documentation that supports it. My interest in helping with 0AD is to be able to contribute, in a meaningful way, to the gamers who love the game and want to know more about it. Personality: I thank god every day for the opportunity to contribute what I can to my adopted family, my country, and whoever else needs my help. Short Essay: I have been a fan of RTS games for a few years now. I am currently into Empire Earth, and now more into 0AD. I started with Age of Empires many years ago, moved to the Total War series, with a smattering of time messing with Empire Earth. I recently got re-interested in Empire Earth. I noticed that all of the games have one thing in common; there is a vast knowledge base for each of the games, but the data is so spread out that it is hard to find a good one-source document. I started working on a guide that I call the Empire Earth Bible, so I can keep track of what is what. What caught my eye in 0AD was the graphics and it nudged me to do some more research on the game. My research led me to Wildfire games. The idea of getting involved nearer to the beginning of a project, instead of after it is released, excited me. I am interested in trying a lot of things, such as art generation and programming, but my experience is in documents for now. I use graphics extensively in my day job and when I develop websites. I have experience with several graphics programs. I have personal subscriptions to Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Autodesk, and I also have other programs, such as On1 Photo RAW 2019, and Snagit. I just recently downloaded Blender and GIMP in hopes of pursuing my interest in game graphics; additionally, I am currently learning JavaScript. Interests and Hobbies: I am into RTS gaming, building and repairing my own computers, photography, martial arts, watching and helping my brothers kids grow up. I also develop websites in my spare time among many other interests. Staff: Not to my knowledge Community: TWcenter, EE.heavengames, and now 0AD. Favorite Game: Empire Earth, but 0AD is caching up fast. I also still like playing Total War: Napoleon occasionally. Work Examples: Most of my latest examples, in the documentation line, are controlled by the government and are not available for public review at this time. Here are a few pages from my first draft of the 0AD Bible and EE Bible I am compiling at the moment, mostly for myself. These are both in the early draft stages and much of it is in the original text as I found it. Only the styling has been added at this point.

  2. For two months I've joined the lobby in a daily manner but from now on I will never return. Certainly, no one will care but I’m writing this as a tribute to whom were very kind and welcoming and also to share my experience and thoughts. I’m leaving over a single incident but I believe lack of proper rules and also inconstancy on applying them from mods side are issues that should be addressed in general. I used to criticize moderators for banning, kicking, muting or blacklisting users before letting them know that what they have violated. And as a principle I think if we could not communicate the rules in a proper way, we should let that person get away with it with a warning. It is not a slippery slope, cherry picking written rules or make them as you go on top of your head and enforcing them arbitrarily might lead to a much more serious problem which is lack of accountability of the mods to players. I know this is an opensource community but I think revealing private information of users without their consent is one example that should not be taken lightly in any case. I have never shared my geographical location with anyone at any time and consider extracting it based on the IP Address and mentioning it by @elexis in a chat that others were present was a violation of privacy and should not be tolerated. This is not a rage quit (not that anyone cares!). I’m not angry with @elexis either, who does not know that apart from the fact that we all are indebted for the contributions on the source, elexis is extremely helpful on lobby. He is very polite and friendly to new players and never leaves questions answerless regardless of how nub was the question, this happened to me couple of times btw. He is also a good player and a perfect host for team games. This is his world after all Anyways I will not enter the lobby after being there every single day for two months. I might have missed a day or two but you should count Christmas eve and new year’s eve doubly It was a great experience and an honour to play with great players. I’m grateful for all the help and support and I want to thank some of the players that I have played withand learned from. @Hannibal_Barca played the role of master Shifu for me somehow during my first days. Putting into practice chapter VII and X of “the art of war” and having layered walls, with his unique style he is a genius for his own good @nani is very nice beside of being a very good politician and strategist. I used to call him Chancellor Cao Cao @BoBah_Kiev is both a perfect in war and trade. I think he let me win after losing against him for like more 20 times. @PhyZic and the cav supremacy PhyZic is very good at fighting against multiple opponents simultaneously. very caring and patient with nubs like me @ValihrAnt is one of the best players obviously, I’m grateful to him for bearing with my stupid nub questions about game play and answering them patiently. @snelius was very quick and also a very polite person. Always a good experience playing with him @Stockfish knows very good songs from old times and of course very well how to play. He is one of the best. @thankforpie killed my entire army with just three siege towers ingenious! i've placed Stockfish and thankforpie next to each other though i know they are not very fond of one another, hope they'll get along better in future I have played with darkcity, D_D_T_, Cesar, randomid, Issh, shookees, Lefo, Lord_Comander, Ricsand, Ivaylo_Uzunov, Karmel and many other regular players and learned much so I’m thankful to them also. I've played once with @borg in a team game, I was so scared that he left before I die from heart attack. and even once with @DoctorOrgans, he was not famous for his nice attitudes but definitely it was very nice to play with him. I don't remember seeing him after that, what happened to him? @fpre your fgod mod is perfect for mid-level and pro users though it might be a little confusing for new players. Thanks for that. @Lefo, you have created scripts to design your base. I think letting players to design the order and location of buildings before the game begins is a very smart and creative way of playing. Anyway, farewell and thanks for the fish

  3. Hi everyone!! Some Update on the job done so far!! First an update on the Project: Goal: create a Economy System for 0Ad to give more realism and add strategy to the game. Brief Description : Money Of course all is about money, so the first thing i did is to create the money resource. The Player that i call State in my Economy System, perceive a fee for every transaction done in its kingdom, (20%) plus it can collect money selling resources to the producers and adding other fee after a certain amount of time. More glorious is his economy more money he can make. Economy Entities Dividing the Military Unit from the Civilian , we focus just in the latter for our Economy. Civilian Entity can upgrade from Slave to Noble, (see post above to know more), there are two kind of entity in our model: Passive: Earn Money from the resource gathering job Active: Earn Money producing and selling products We can say that Passive Entity are just Consumer, and Active are both Consumer and Producer. All the Economy Entities consume product and resources, can stock products , have own money that they can spend or earn. They can Upgrade paying fee to special structure. Components : EntityFinance, EntityConsumer, EntityProducer Products So far i created 8 products that can be sold: - Food: bread, wine, steak, sausage - Clothes - Entertainment - Jewelry - Slave Each Product has a price that change based on the Supply and Demand, they are being calculated by the ProductManager Component and broadcasted to all other components once changed after a certain amount of time What i Achieved so far As you can see on the image i took the template of Female Support i add to the template EntityFinance, EntityConsumer and EntityProducer. With EntityFinance Component they can earn money every resources gathered, they automatically pay the tax to the State, they can store all money in a Balance which has a maximum capacity , depending if are just citizen or nobles. or dealer etc.. With EntityConsumer Component i track the need of the entity, every time she work one algorithm calculate different variables to define is actual need. these variables are : - Product Daily Consuming, - Product Daily Availability, - Product Already in Stock - Product Prices Compared with his Own Balance. The need is so calculated as a value between 0 and 2 , if the value of need of a product is major of 1 , the product is inserted inside a list of FirstChoiceProduct, which define the entity needed product in every given the moment Of course this component track all the product consumed and stocked by the entity With EntityProducer Component instead define the capabilities to produce products to resell later. all Products produced are in a catalogue that other entity can see , so far i developed just to let the entity purchase what she wants, still need to be developed to producing product etc.. To make the entity moving to buy product if needed i implemented a new order in unitAI Component, i called it "Shopping", which let the entity once she working checking if she has need, if there are producer with available product around and in case if go to them, buy the product, stock them and go back to work . Also For the Visual Part and GUI, i added the 8 product category for Entity Consumer in the left panel so to have a track of what the entity has in stock(you can see the tooltip) and the balance of money of the entity is showed on top of the head of the 3d woman and also in the central panel, where there is a more specific description with tot amount ant max capacity. Money resources are instead tracked in the top together with all other resources. Also i added one new animation once the entity approach the seller, is just a start but at least she do something like paying cash.( Is the third picture, i used another woman as a producer cause i don t have now 3d model of vendor to use) As always i would be very happy to share all the code, just now is really a lots.!!...i don t think here would look nice and also are becoming really a lot of implementation , so you just tell me where would be best share and i ll post. And Please give me Ideas and Feedback

  4. killing enemy women as melee cav hero is uncounterable. you need about 30 units to kill him (or more), and he cna just run away if you go back with army thoughts?

  5. I decided to go ahead and create new, reddish mahogany-brown skins for the native Egyptian units since I didn't want them to be confused for their Kushite analogs. Here are some re-re-skinned Egyptian ladies. Now, onto the soldiers!

  6. By "elite" you mean Champion? Try to use the standard 0 A.D. terminology. ;)

  7. Pl. Ps. 1.2.15: neque Aléxandrina beluata tonsilia tappetia Yes, Plautus wrote comedies around c. 200 BC; twenty have survived, which is more than all other Greek and Roman comedies combined (Aristophanes 11, Menander 1, Terence 6). His works are also the oldest Latin texts of serious length, and his spelling is more archaic than the classical Latin of the 1st C BC and 1st C AD. Roman comedy is a bit of an acquired taste, very vulgar with little to no plot; they were very popular in the Renaissance (some Shakespearean comedies are indirectly based on Plautus). Nowadays people prefer the Athenian Old Comedy of Aristophanes, which also has numerous vulgar parts, but also includes satire, social citicisms, and controversial themes, which makes his plays quite modern in our eyes.

  8. Thank you for the clarification. Basically: Greek → *PIE → *Celtic → *Gaulish. (An asterisk denotes a reconstructed form.) I don't know what 0 A.D.'s policy on unattested things is, though. Comparative linguistics is not necessarily difficult, it uses rigid logic, and therefore they are often right. However, it is always possible the Gauls used a word borrowed from a different language, instead of the reconstructed form. Thanks! So the Gauls have no cavalry unit in the village phase? It might be better to merge the two city-phase cavalry units into a single champion cavalry lancer. Is there any specific reason why the Gauls have a slinger in the village phase and the Britons in the town phase, and not the other way around? Also, do you happen to know how common swords were compared to spears? Nice catch! (Interestingly that two-handed weapon is described as a sabre, not a sword.) By the way, “the linen coming from the trees” is cotton, a material alien to the Greeks.

  9. Isis from Meroë reveals herself I was browsing through the Meroitic period artefacts in the archives of the British Museum, and found myself just staring at a few individual relief blocks. I suddenly realized that they were part of the same relief. A little bit more research revealed that these blocks were indeed all from the rear wall of the chapel of pyramid N17 in Meroë. This pyramid belonged to King Amanitenmemide, 1st century AD (or BC). Turns out that the chapel was removed from Sudan in 1905, with one wall being shipped to Berlin, and the other wall being shipped to London. The one that was sent to Berlin was reconstructed and is currently on display in the Neues Museum. The one that was sent to London (only 6 blocks survived) is not reconstructed. In fact it is not even on display... The archives of the British Museum house 1703 Meroitic and Napatan period artefacts, the vast majority of them not photographed (or at least their photographs haven't been published, or publicly catalogued), nor are they on display. I dowloaded the images of the blocks in the London archives, cut them out, and put them back together again. A beautiful, voluptuous African winged goddess appears: Isis! A winged goddess, Isis, wearing the vulture crown and a sun disk with cow horns, backing the Kushite Lion Throne of the seated king, Amanitenmemide. The goddess is depicted with exposed bosom, a symbol of fertility. https://www.britishmuseum.org/research/collection_online/search.aspx?searchText=n17+meroe For comparison, here is the reconstructed relief from the other wall of the chapel, currently in Berlin: King Amanitenmemide himself!

  10. Best to add this to the first post and make an evolving design. Don't want to have to search this discussion to find the roster.

  11. If I reduce my previous suggestions and try to be more simple: The Gallic roster could be like this: Heavy infantryman (spearman or swordman) - Cingetos (generic term for warrior fighting in the front line). Javelin skirmisher - Bagauda (bellicose/fighter), Talanos (support person). or Adretos (who moves fast, attacker). Slinger - Clucagretos (proto-indo-european reconstruction for slinger), Uassos (meaning servant, attested word) or Talanos (support person). Sword cavalry - Eporedos (cavalryman). Archer - Selgos (hunter) - Archers appeared only during the 1st Century BC, I suggest an unit available only in the 3rd phase but not an elite unit. Naked warrior (spearman) - Bariogaisatos (furious spearman). Fast and scary for fresh recruit (bonus against basic version of units ?) Elite infantryman (swordman) - Soldurios/Soliduros (bodyguard), Ambactos (servant, protector, retainer), Adscoros (attendant, retainer). Elite horseman (sword or lance) - Comaterecos (patrician) or Uerouicos (victorious warrior, great fighter). Anti-cavalry special unit - Epouanos (horse-killer). Gallic horsemen auxiliaries are described as being efficient anti-cavalry against the Parthians at Carrhae. Eastern Celts, Belgians and Germans share this feature it seems. The Britonic roster could be like this: Heavy infantryman (spearman or swordman) - Catucos (combatant), Batacos (combatant) or Batoros (who-hit-hard, fighter). Javelin skirmisher - Bagauda (bellicose/fighter), Talanos (support person). or Adretos (who moves fast, attacker). Slinger - Clucagretos (proto-indo-european reconstruction for slinger), Uassos (meaning servant, attested word) or Talanos (support person). Lance cavalry - Marcacos (cavalryman). Marcos is another word for the horse, more common in the island than in the continent. Light cavalry with javelins - Gaisaredos (Javelin on horse, mounted), Gaisatoredos (Javelinist on horse), Adretos (who moves fast, attacker) or Bagauda (attested for horsemen as well during the Gallo-Roman rebellion). Naked warrior (swordman) - Batoros (who-hit-hard, fighter) or Excingos (attacker, who-get-out-to-fight). The Caledonians are described as using longswords and small shield and fighting naked. Elite chariot warrior - Esseda (war chariot). The Britons use war chariots with a driver and an elite warrior, they throw javelins from it and continue the fight on foot (possibility for the unit to transport one infantryman ?) Elite noble infantryman (sword or spear) - Argos (battle champion, noble) or Donnouicos (noble warrior, noble fighter). Elite skirmisher infantryman - Caur (old-Irish for champion) or Art (old-Irish for champion and bear). A propose an Irish elite javelinist, with a historical irish shortsword. If the double weapons switch is implanted, it could be an interesting unit. Polyvalent. I removed the light cavalry from the Gallic roster to let it only for the Britons. There is actually no direct evidence for light cavalry among the Gauls, it is more a matter of supposition and interpretation. Historically probably that the javelins, the spears and the swords were used together by gallic cavalrymen. Edit: I think interesting features can enhance and deepen the gameplay, like the Bariogaisatos (previous Gaesatae) having a bonus against basic version of the units because he was historically considered scary, like the Epouanos (horse-killer) being an efficient anti-cavalry with mediocre/average stats but with a strong bonus against cavalry, like the Britonic chariot possibility to carrying an infantry unit etc. What are your thoughts?

  13. The Kingdom of Kush: A Random Visual Reference Update You might have noticed that I'm taking a break from the Kushites, but that doesn't mean the research has ended. After the re-release of alpha 23, I'll post a list of some further suggestions to get this faction from 95% to 100%. In the meantime, have a look at some new finds, and a handful of higher quality versions of images shared before:
