  1. Would someone be interested in drawing a new background for the mac installations ? This one is very old, that is what the main menu used to look like. Would any of @fabius_titus (Or the Afgral School) @Victor Rossi @dMAthena @LordGood @pedro_blancobe interested in improving it ? I'm thinking of a little contest, what do you think ? The only thing that must remains is too blocks with an arrow between the two, because mac users install their software by dragging and dropping. Resolution: 600x372 Format PSD + PNG

  2. That's fair. My point wasn't to declare that there were moral absolutes even if I do believe in them. The point was to establish that a deontological ethical system generally starts with a presupposition like that. The question of why there are such wildly different value systems if there are moral absolutes that deontological ethics bases itself around is fair, but I think that the point that would be the easiest explanation is that to a deontologist, there is a perfect set of rules to follow to live a moral life. Not everyone or potentially even anyone fully understands them or can articulate them. As a secondary point, although I can assume that you are generalising about the people who do or do not believe in moral absolutes, it stands to reason that even an atheist might believe in them. Why they would, I'm not sure. What I do find interesting is that by and large, you don't seem to argue for any specific universal morals, which seems sensible since as far as I gather, conscience comes from personal experience in your opinion. What use then, is there in attempting to use moral 'truths' if they are simply a result of the human mind? Humans are fallible and any similarity could be considered mere coincidence It seems better to use logical reasoning with utilitarian ethics to create coherent system that could potentially be applied to any context regardless of socio-cultural differences.

  4. This sounds pretty cool, it even reminded me of the AoE II campaign background. I'll try to take the day tomorrow to finish and send the Amanirenas portrait, then I might be able to see what I can do. Is there a deadline for this? And just another question, is there a video or some sort of reference showing this installation menu? I mean, it's a little out of context for someone who never owned a mac. It would help me to understand how it works and how it fits into the installer Also, I've made these 2 unrelated illustrations a while ago and if you guys have any use to them in the game, feel free to use it. The second one might need some adjustments because it was a speedpainting, but I can do that in a day or two

  6. Not to worry, this is to be expected. Due to work on resolving various multiplayer issues, there is a possibility that the A23 original-release and the A23 re-release is not fully 100% compatible. Thus, a new lobby instance has been created for the A23 re-release, which is what you're seeing... which has no players in it because we haven't released the re-release yet. Once we do, everyone who updates to the re-release will migrate over. An internal soundcard is one that is internal or built-in to the computer. An external soundcard is one that is connected externally to your computer via a USB, Firewire, Thunderbolt or Lightning (very, very frightening me! Galileo!... sorry) cable. If your headphones or speakers plug directly into your computer, you have an internal soundcard. If your headphones or speakers plug in to a box separate from your computer but connected by a data cable, then you might have an external soundcard. (If connected via an audio cable, then the box is more likely to be an amplifier of some description.)

  7. So I guess there are a few questions regarding this. Are there any substantial design differences in mind? How does the fork AD team hope to create a different culture from the WFG team to ensure that both individual voices are relevant while also pushing towards a common goal?

  8. Today we played an epic winter battle with several base swaps and a lot of sieging. Let's try uploading more of the good games. RamboXXX + Boudica + Cesar vs. bbgotbanned + Unknown_Player + Stockfish 2018-12-11_Winter-Battle.zip

  10. I would first move building libpng (around L376) before wxwidgets (L335). Then replace --with-png=builtin wxwidgets compile option with --with-libpng=sys . It probably will fail because it will search in standard system location. Then try to change the wxwidgets CPPFLAGS from CPPFLAGS="-stdlib=libc++ ... to something like CPPFLAGS="-Irelative/path/to/just/compiled/libpng/headers -stdlib=libc++ ... and LDFLAGS from LDFLAGS="$LDFLAGS" to LDFLAGS="-Lrelative/path/to/just/compiled/libpng/lib $LDFLAGS" . EDIT: it should be similar to what done on sdl2 with iconv (L293).

  11. I will support both groups as I support the continued development of the game. 0ad is quite strong already but for me I will play the game that has features of my liking. Likewise the remaining dev team is really doing well to keep players enjoy the game.

  12. I'd say (and I'm not alone with that) humanism is a religion. A religion without any deity, but a religion. To reference Yuval Noah Harari: A religion is any belief system that helps coordinating a big crowd of people. Its use is that all people of this crowd have a common base, so they know how someone totally foreign, but from the same group, will behave. An atheist is not someone without religion, but someone who does not believe in any deity.

  14. I agree That's why I believe in the importance of universal human rights. The UN might be a bit of a bogged down bureaucratic mess, but together with it's even more troubled predecessor, the League of Nations, have served and continue to serve humanity for the better. Concepts like democracy, collective security, written constitutions, separation of church and state, freedom of speech etc have done a lot of good, and we must guard against those forces that wish to undermine this progress. I do actually believe in specific universal morals, it's just that they are rooted in my faith, which is something I understand not everyone shares, and therefore difficult to use as the basis for arguing for the existence of moral absolutes. But it is obvious to me that we do indeed need some global set of morals that we can all agree on, otherwise we're right back to the default settings of "might makes right", mentioned by Loki in another thread. Well, humanism in large part evolved from a strong Christian substrate, so... Of course not every atheist is a humanist, but most secular traditions are at least superficially rooted in their religious predecessors. I'm not saying atheists wouldn't be able to independently construct strong moral codes, just that they are influenced by their environment. As societies become less religious, the collective of atheist moral codes also becomes more divergent.

  17. The thing about open source is that you can't really stop others from using "your" code as long as they adhere to the original license. Both WFG and Fork AD can and will likely mix and match code and assets just like the mods have.
