Dwarves (Khazâd, Naugrim, Gonhirrim.)
"Since
they were to come in the days of the power of Melkor, Aulë
made the Dwarves strong to endure. Therefore they are stone-hard,
stubborn, fast in friendship and in enmity, and they suffer toil
and hunger and hurt of body more hardily than all other speaking
peoples."
- J.R.R. Tolkien.
The Silmarillion. "Of Aulë and Yavanna"
Perhaps
made most popular by J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, Dwarves
played a pivotal role in the Mythos of Arda and will play a pivotal
role in The Last Alliance. In J.R.R. Tolkien's writings,
Dwarves are master stoneworkers, builders of magnificent underground
mansions and sprawling subterranean settlements. Dwarves are master
miners; they are among the few races of Arda who mined glittery
Mithril, and were second only to the Noldor in their skill with
gems and precious ores. However, Dwarves were also considered to
be greedy, stubborn, and steadfast in their ways. In fact, none
of the Dwarves who were given rings of power in the Second Age of
the Sun were not able to be controlled by Sauron: the dwarves' lust
for their treasures was greater than their lust for power. However,
though they could not be controlled or turned into shadows, a fiery
lust for gold was kindled in their hearts, and many of their grim
deeds aided Sauron indirectly. It is believed that at the core of
every one of the seven hoards of the dwarven lords there lay a golden
ring

Characteristics
TLA's
Dwarves are superb fighters, craftsmen, and builders. Also, TLA's
dwarves are the only player civilization based entirely in the underground
map. Dwarves have the following advantages in TLA:
- Units have
superb health, defense, and good attack.
- Dwarves can
tunnel through underground terrain to create networks of hallways,
chambers, and staircases.
- Dwarven buildings
have massive amounts of hitpoints and are resistant to damage.
- Dwarves can
produce and trade the mithril good, the most valuable good in
TLA
- The Dwarven
Dragonslayer unit is one of few that can withstand the immense
heat of Morgoth's Balrogs and Urulóki.
- Dwarves can
build three types of bridges, Wooden Footbridge, Stone Bridge,
and Fortified Bridge.
However, the
Dwarves have their weaknesses:
- Expensive,
slow training units.
- Dwarves must
build underground into the side of their chambers. (except for
a few notable structures.)
- Dwarves are,
on average, not very charismatic and suffer diplomatic penalities
as a result.
- Dwarves in
TLA do not have a navy.
